I’m not reinventing the wheel… You know this recipe. It’s tried and true and good. Do I prefer it over the perfumed varieties sold at the stores? Actually, yes! Whenever there are difficult stains or smells, I found this recipe to work – actually FAR better than the perfumed kinds. Best part? It cleans any foul smells your machine might decide to contain. For those of you with a side loading washer, that’s important.
Yes, it DOES work with HE washers, and I know for sure, as I own one. It has low suds, so it won’t mess with your machine.
Some recipes will tell you to use a grater for the Fels-Naptha soap. Are you kidding?? I don’t have time for that, so I used it in the food processor. YES… please wash it thoroughly in the dishwasher to ensure a clean machine afterward. Thank you.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of washing soda (Arm & Hammer)
- 1 cup of Borax
- 1 bar of ground up or shredded Fels-Naptha soap (sold at grocery stores)
- Air tight container
Method:
Grind up Fels-Naptha soap in a food processor. Add Borax and washing soda into air tight container. Add soap. Lock lid down and shake container to mix it all together.
Use:
1 TBSP per load (or more if you have a smelly load!)
